Childhood memories, especially, are as quotidian as they are immortal, deeply intimate and archetypal at once.
are part of larger ongoing work that plays sometimes absurdly and sometimes very personally with my family's immigration "story" or lack thereof- more like vaguely autobiographical scenes and moments that sit more as the process of personal memory and shirk "poignant immigrant story." My parents, sister, and grandma (who shows up as an old family market bag) moved to Stillwater briefly from Egypt when I was a kid and lived in OSU's international family housing units. Last year I convinced the housing department to let my family occupy an identical unit to our first home here, where we "moved in," made dinner, and went through some other activities and gestures that I record. So it's sort of a performance project, a social practice project, a video project, and more.
